How to Open Dell Precision M20 Battery & Replace the Lithium Ion

Laptop batteries, like all rechargeable battery packs, lose their charging capacity over time. Because new laptop batteries are expensive, replacing the individual cells inside the battery casing can save a lot of money. However, rebuilding a battery sometimes does not work as expected, so it’s important to be willing to purchase a new laptop battery if the procedure fails.

Dell Precision M20 Battery 6 cells 4400MAH [http://www.udtek.com/dell-precision-m20-battery-cells-4400mah-p-24071.html]

Now I will show some steps about How to Open a Laptop Battery & Replace the Lithium Ion

Step 1

Allow the Dell Precision M20 Battery to run down completely. Turn off your laptop, then remove the battery. Write down the model number located on your battery to help identify the type of Li-ion replacement cells you need to purchase.

Step 2

Split open a small section of the battery pack (at the seam) with a screwdriver or craft knife. Continue to pry the plastic case loose moving around the outer edge until the entire top is free. This may take a bit of force.

Step 3

Note the number of cells inside the case (usually four to eight). Write down the part number and voltage information printed on the cell casings. Draw a diagram showing the arrangement of the cells and how they are connected, or take a few photos to help with reassembly.

Step 4

Purchase the correct number and type replacement batteries from a local or online dealer, based on your battery model and cell specifications. Six Li-ion cells typically cost around $30 to $40.

Step 5

Carefully remove each cell using a craft knife and wire cutters as necessary. Each battery pack is different, but the cells are usually wrapped in a plastic casing with metal contacts attached to one end. Lay the metal contacts, wires and casing material aside.

Step 6

Use double-sided tape or a solder gun (only if necessary) to attach the metal contacts to the cells and circuit board. When finished, the old cells should be completely stripped (naked) and the new cells should look like the old ones as much as possible.

Step 7

Place the new cells inside the case, referring to your diagram or photos if necessary. Glue the battery pack top back on. Charge the new notebook battery for at least 24 hours before using it.

My Dell laptop has a power problem

My Dell laptop has a power problem.

The Dell Precision M20 Battery stops charging when I move the power cord on the DC adapter. When I start moving the cord left to right, the power LED light on the front goes on and off and the battery charge LED goes on and off too.

I removed the precision m20 battery and tested the laptop again. The laptop starts fine from the DC adapter when the battery is removed, but as soon as I start moving the power cord the laptop shuts off. It looks like the laptop looses power immediately.

If you have a problem like that, most likely it’s related either to the power adapter or the DC-IN power jack.

First of all, I tested the laptop power ac adapter with a multimeter. The power didn’t cut off no matter how badly I moved the cord. The power adapter output voltage was 15.45VDC all the time. That means there is nothing wrong with the power adapter and most likely there is a problem with with the power socket inside the laptop.

Now I’m going to test the power socket inside the laptop.

In order to access the power socket I had to disassemble the laptop and remove the top cover assembly with the display.

You can find disassembly instructions for many HP, Dell, IBM, Lenovo, Sony and Toshiba laptops in these service manuals and guides.

In the laptop I was fixing (Tecra M2) the power jack is attached to a DC-IN harness and this harness can be unplugged from the motherboard.

As you see, I removed the DC-IN harness from the motherboard, plugged in the power adapter and tested continuity with my multimeter as it shown on the picture.

When the power cord is still, the voltage output is 15.45VDC, the same as on the plug.

But as soon as I start wiggling the plug inside the jack, the power cuts off and voltage goes to 0. It means, the power harness is bad.

The problem was fixed after I replaced the defective DC-IN harness with a new one.

In some laptops the power socket (DC jack) is soldered to the motherboard.
If the battery stops charging when you wiggle the power plug inside the jack, either you have a bad power adapter (test it with a voltmeter) or the power jack is broken or loose.

You cannot simply unplug the jack and replace it with another one. You’ll have to unsolder the old jack and solder a new one back on the motherboard as I described in this post.

If the power jack is not broken but loose (not making good contact with the motherboard) you can resolder the old jack without replacing it with a new one.

If you want to buy a new one,you can see more information from http://www.udtek.com

Tips to Maximise Dell Inspiron B130 Battery Life

Laptop batteries are designed specifically for different laptops brand as well as models. Today laptops are powered by lithium ion batteries. Lithium ion batteries are lighter, have a better power-to-weight ratio, have a longer usable life, can hold a charge longer, and do not have the memory effect to fail prematurely.

Lithium ion batteries(such as Dell Inspiron B130 Battery and dell precision m60 battery ) are also inexpensive to manufacture as compared to the earlier generation of nickel metal hydride batteries. The only shortcoming about lithium ion batteries is as they contain lithium salt dissolved in a highly flammable solvent, there are chances of overhead which can result in short-circuits or even blow up in flames.

It is a common fact that all laptop batteries have provision for limited time of power supply. A good bargain is to check the battery power while buying a notebook. Here is one instant tip to optimize the battery settings in accordance with the energy saving mode of your notebook. These settings will put the hard disk into sleep mode whenever the workload is less and it will reduce the notebook microprocessor performance in order to maximize its battery life.

From the system preferences mode of your laptop, select view menu, then choose energy saver option from view menu. Right click on show details option and choose battery power from the pop-up menu. Finally choose longest battery life from the energy settings pop-up menu.
Tips to optimise your notebook batteries are described in the following:
It is a good investment to add more memory to your laptop as it saves battery power by reducing Windows’ dependence on the virtual memory swap file on your hard disk.

It is better to keep your laptop on standby mode when not in use for certain amount of time. Standby mode ensures all current info is saved in RAM with minimum consumption of battery power.
Charge your laptop battery frequently with a battery charger or AC adapter. It is very important to clean your battery’s metal contacts every couple of months to make it dust free. You can use a cloth moistened with rubbing alcohol to clean your laptop battery.
Try to set the screen brightness of the LCD panel of your laptop to the lowest comfortable level as very bright screen tends to consume more power from your battery.

Similarly it is better to get rid of the outer peripherals such as printers or digital cameras as they can still draw power from your laptop battery even when they are not used.

Turn of the unused features and technologies of your laptopo which are not frequently usable. For example, it is better to eject the CD or DVD when you are not using them as the optical drive has the tendency of reading CD or DVD it finds very often and this process consume extra battery power.

To save power, it is good idea to turn off the AirPort, Wi-Fi, IR radios and Bluetooth option when it is not required to use. Virus scan should be set only during the time you are usually plugged in as full-disk virus check by the hard drive and CPU consumes additional power from battery.

Opt for the power console applet to customize the power profiles on your laptop. Do not worry in case your notebook does not have power console applet option for most of the operating systems (starting from windows 98) have Power Options utility in Control Panel.

Turning off or at least disabling the PC Cards, FireWire devices and USB when not in use also saves battery power. In fact, disabling modem, network cards and USB ports consumes less battery power even when they are on. These devices are easily disabled in device manager.
You can use power saver option of your operating system to adjust the CPU processing power. Optimum CPU processes consume additional battery power and hence should be avoided if not required. Stop the auto start applications on your laptop, so that your laptop`s CPU can be stopped from doing unnecessary work.

With the above mentioned handy tips, you can truly increase the battery performance of your laptop.

High quality and cheap laptop batteries from China

As we know China has become a place to watch for all things savvy. So many laptop batteries are made in china .such as HP laptop batteries. It easily qualifies as the country that is upfront in the manufacturing of all electrical devices of all kinds. Engineers in the country make a good percentage of the working population and this leads to the main economy driver and major exports being electronics. And their expertise is not limited to making of whole electronic devices but also replacement parts.

Dell Inspiron B130 Battery 6 cells 4400MAH

One of the maintenance parts that require replacing after extended use is the laptop batteries.Laptops being mobile computers feed on a lot of power and unless one of the main reasons for making a laptop is to provide extended use on the road, then battery life dwindles in an hour or two. With time the batteries wear out and they need to be replaced.

Manufacturers know this all too well and they usually tag high prices on HP laptop batteries and IBM laptop batteries since they know they are definitely going to get a market for them.

China is a technology hub and things like Dell or Acer laptop batteries retail for cheaper prices. These batteries can be sold in bulk or individually and needless to say, better prices are always scored when purchases are made in bulk. At this point another idea springs up. Why not sell cheap high quality replacement laptop batteries from China.

They say a business idea is only as successful and fruitful as you believe it to be. When you decide to sell u4873 battery there is the potential of making a good lumpsum in the end. Most people prefer laptops to desktop PC’s due to the mobility factor. And that means that there will always be a market for laptop replacement batteries now and in the future. A good percentage of people are unwilling to make the purchases from the manufacturer due to the high prices. It gets worse when the batteries are sold through a retailer since the price goes up another notch. All these people would be your potential customers and you would actually get to profit from the venture.

To guarantee the chances of you being successful, you need to make sure that you get the replacement laptop batteries from a reliable source. Despite the fact that you are buying cheap ones that does not mean that you should compromise on the quality that you go for. Quality really matters if you want to build a customer base. Go for referrals and read reviews of the best cheap high quality replacement laptop batteries wholesalers so you can choose and ultimately buy from the best.

how to troubleshoot a dead laptop and find the problem

We may offen face the same problem :when our laptop is dead. In this post I’ll explain how to troubleshoot a dead laptop and find the problem. The following troubleshooting tips are not model and brand specific, they should work for most laptops.

Let’s take a look at two different scenarios.

Example 1. The laptop is absolutely dead.
When you plug in the power adapter and press on the power button, there is no signs of life at all. The laptop will not make usual noises, LED will not light up, the fan will not spin, the screen is blank and black, etc… In short, the laptop is dead.

What you can do in this case?
1. Make sure the wall outlet is working and the laptop DC adapter is getting power from the outlet. Try another wall outlet.
2. Test the laptop DC power adapter, make sure the voltage output is correct. You can test the DC power adapter with a voltmeter.
3. Let’s say the DC adapter is fine and the adapter outputs correct voltage. In this case unplug the power adapter from the laptop, remove the battery, wait for 1-2 minutes, plug in the adapter and try turning on the laptop again.

OK, you tested the adapter and it’s bad. If you decide to replace the original DC adapter with a generic one, you’ll have to follow this rule:
The voltage output on your new adapter has to be exactly the same as on the original adapter. The amperage on the new adapter could be the same or higher.

If nothing helps and the laptop is still dead, apparently the motherboard is fried or there is a problem with the DC power jack. It’s possible the DC power jack is broken and the motherboard is not getting any power from the adapter. In this case you’ll have to disassemble the laptop and replace the power jack. Check out this guide for fixing laptop power jack.

Example 2. When you plug the DC power adapter and press on the power button, the laptop starts making normal noises, the LEDs work properly but noting appears on the screen. The laptop will not start.

First of all, take a closer look at the LCD screen. Look at the screen under bright light. It’s possible that the image is still on the screen but it’s very faint. If that’s the case, check out these tips for troubleshooting laptop with backlight failure.

If there is no image on the laptop LCD screen, test the laptop with an external monitor. Connect an external monitor to the VGA port on your laptop and turn the laptop on. You can toggle video output between the internal LCD screen and external monitor by pressing Fn and F4 keys simultaneously on HP laptops, Fn and F5 keys on Toshiba laptops, Fn and F7 keys on IBM laptops. Other laptops may use different key combinations.

Let’s say the external monitor works fine but the internal LCD screen has no image at all. If that’s the case, your problem could be related to the LCD screen or the video cable. Also, make sure the video cable makes good connection with the motherboard and the LCD screen. Try reconnecting, reseating the cable.

In my case, both internal and external monitors were absolutely dead. Neither of them had image. That means the problem is not related to the LCD screen or the video cable. From my experience I know that this problem could be related to the laptop memory.

Try reseating the memory module, maybe it’s not making good connection with the memory slot. Try cleaning contacts on the memory module with pen eraser. Try moving the memory module into another slot. Try replacing the memory module with another known good module, it’s possible that your original module is dead.
If you have two memory modules installed you can try removing them one by one, it’s possible that one of the modules is bad. Try installing different memory modules into different memory slots.

In my case reseating, swapping the memory module didn’t help. I was pretty confident that my problem is not memory related and I moved on.

Try removing battery, hard drive and DVD drive and turning on the laptop without these components.

Also, try turning on the laptop with an external monitor when the video cable is unplugged from the motherboard. If the laptop start with video on the external monitor, apparently there is something wrong with the laptop display panel.

In my case removing the hard drive and DVD drive didn’t help. Unplugging the video cable didn’t help either.
I continued taking my laptop apart piece by piece and tested it after each step.
I removed wireless card, modem, disconnected the keyboard but it didn’t help.

I still wasn’t able to boot the laptop with video on the external monitor.

Finally, I disassembled the laptop and removed the motherboard.

On this picture you see my final test. The motherboard has been removed from the base and I assembled basic barebone system on my bench.
1. Motherboard. Like on most laptops, in my case the video card is integrated into the motherboard
2. CPU with heatsink and cooling fan.
3. Known good memory module.
4. The power button board witch I need to turn on the system.
5. Working DC power adapter.

Still cannot get any video on the external monitor. The system turns on, the cooling fan starts spinning but there is no video.

At this point I’m 95% sure that the motherboard is dead. CPU failures are not very common, so it must be bad motherboard. may be this arcitle is good for you.thank you for reading.

The way to use the cheap laptop battery as an expensive one

What happens when you buy a cheap battery that quickly loses its kick? You don’t want to have to go out and buy another battery, then you will have spent more than it would have cost to get a good one originally. Or maybe you already have a really good laptop battery and you just want to keep it running at its peak performance, to prevent a future purchase. Either way you need to know the secrets to extending the life of that laptop battery such as Original HP Pavilion dv8000 Battery 8 cells 4400mAh, and I am going to share them with you.

http://www.udtek.com/original-hp-pavilion-dv8000-battery-cells-4400mah-p-30282.html

So what exactly can happen if you don’t take care of that cheap laptop battery?

just follow the simple tips .

Don’t allow your laptop battery to discharge completely. Allowing a battery to completely discharge can have very negative effects on the overall performance and life of the battery. Often times we find that by draining the battery can in some cases cause complete battery failure or drastically shorten the charge capacity of the battery. What this means in plain English is your battery will die and/or not hold as much of a charge therefor draining quicker than it should.

Many manufacturers recommend that your battery is stored and maintained at around half or 40% charge to maintain optimal performance. Always read the user manual that came with your laptop, or if it is a replacement battery read the included documentation.

Add more memory or RAM to your laptop. Many people would speculate that this method will not help to save battery performance due to the fact that more memory requires more power to maintain. While this reasoning is true in part, if your laptop is short on RAM, your hard drive will be constantly running to make up the difference, via your swapping file, which in turn would use a lot more power and battery life. If you are using a laptop that has say 512mb of RAM, increasing this to 1gb should be more than enough to maintain optimal performance.

Turn off your Wifi while not in use. There is usually a switch to turn off your Wifi, however you may need to turn it off in the Wifi configuration panel. Your Wifi uses a lot of power when it is not connected because it is constantly searching for a connection, so it is a good idea to make sure it is turned off when not in use.

Remove your battery while running your laptop on AC. If you are working from home and your laptop is plugged in to the AC, removing your battery is a good habit to have. Keep in mind that you do not want to store your battery completely discharged, but this method will allow your laptop battery to take a break while not in use.

Take care of your battery and keep it clean. I should probably say this twice, but I won’t. Taking care of your laptop battery is crucial to its performance. Over time the metal contacts on the battery will build up gunk that can cause the battery to work harder than it should in its daily operation. So once a month, pull out the battery and wipe it down with a cloth, clean off the contacts and you will extend its life.

Lower your graphics use. You can save a lot of power consumption by dimming your screen, lowering the screen resolution and removing the fancy graphics. Windows especially uses a lot of graphics on the menu’s and such, which is easily turned off and cut out a lot of the battery drain. The overall look may not be as pretty, but were going for battery life here.

Remove USB devices when not in use. Usb devices often require a good amount of power to continue running. If you are not using them make sure to remove them from the computer and this will help to save on battery consumption.

Defragment your hard drive regularly. Defragmenting your hard drive can help it to run more efficiently and require less power consumption. The more efficiently your hard drive operates the less work it will require to maintain operation. So keeping this in order and defragmenting regularly will benefit the life of your laptops battery.

Keep your laptops air vents clean. Laptops, or computers in general operate more efficiently when running at cooler temperatures. This is also why you see high end computers with water cooling systems. Anyways, by keeping the air vents clean you allow more air flow for the fans to run and the laptop will remain considerably cooler.

Optimal laptop performance causes optimal battery performance. Over all, the better your laptop performs the longer your laptop battery will last. It is very disruptive to your day when your laptop battery dies and you are constantly looking for a good place to plug in. So use the tips above to maintain your laptops battery at peak performance and life on the go should be a little easier.

Set your laptop to hibernate rather than stand-by mode while sitting idle. While stand-by mode is great for saving on power consumption, setting your laptop to hibernate will allow the computer to completely shut itself down and still save your laptops state where you left off. Both options are good, you should at least be doing one of them, but hibernation will be the most effective.

How many Cycles of Charge can HP dv6000 Laptop Battery go through?

In our life we always ask How many Cycles of Charge can a Standard Laptop Battery go through? and now i will give you my answer for reference.

http://www.udtek.com/hp-pavilion-dv8000-ac-adapter-90w-185v-49a-p-2946.html

Regular lithium ion batteries that power laptops can be recharged 300-500 times before you notice a drop in charge retention.Reconditioning can help you extend the laptop’s battery(hp dv8000 battery) life as long as the battery itself is not completely dead. It needs to hold at least 45-60min of charge to be considered suitable to recondition.

Like car batteries, laptop batteries can be recharged up to 500 cycles. Once the cycle of 300-500 charges is done (in about 2-3 years), you will notice your a steady decline in your battery’s charge retaining capacity. If you don’t want to junk it yet, reconditioning is the answer to revive and reuse an old laptop battery such as my hp pavilion dv6000 battery. So how do you figure out if your own battery can be reconditioned?

Simple! Just see how long it runs on a full charge when you put on you laptop ac adapter. If the time till complete discharge is about 1 hour, the battery can be reconditioned. But if you notice the battery discharging in just a few minutes, then it needs to be replaced.

The capacity of notebook batteries

Notebook batteries consist of individual cells, such as a 6-cell battery.
Is there any way to estimate the overall capacity of a notebook battery from the number of its cells? How much capacity does such a cell typically have?

When selecting a notebook battery,such as hp pavilion dv6000 battery udtekHP/Compaq Pavilion DV6000 Battery 12-cells 8800MAH Description:
Cell Type: Li-ion, 12-cells
Voltage: 10.8V
Capacity: 8800MAH
UL certificated cells inside!

http://www.udtek.com/hpcompaq-pavilion-dv6000-battery-12cells-8800mah-p-20875.html

manufacturers will often list an amount of “cells,” where each cell has a certain capacity; thus a 9 cell has 50% more capacity than an equal model 6-cell battery. That is useful for comparing directly, but the story is more complex if you wanted to compare different batteries on different laptops. Batteries have a voltage rating (V) and milli-Amp hours (mAH), which, if multiplied together, give you milliwatt hours.

For example, a 14.8 V battery with 4460 mAH gives you 66,000 milliwatt hours (66 watt-hours). You can compare laptop batteries this way, but also keep in mind that different laptops have very different power requirements that vary based on the components and how well the operating system manages power consumption. Typically, bigger, heavier batteries will give you a higher watt-hour rating. A 6-cell battery may be the same form factor as a 9-cell, but the 6-cell will weigh less since there’s less chemical in it to hold onto that charge.

If you are a mobile warrior, you will want the most cells and/or most watt-hours you can get into your model so you can go 5 or 6 hours without a recharge. It is so painful to run out of power before you are ready. ” And here I suggest you a online-shop to buy good notebook batteries. My friends have bought from udtek.com .There are many computers hardwares on udtek.com. She thought it’s a good service , fast shipping shop, and high quality shop.May be it’s good idea for us to see what products we need .
